Statement by Lisa Dixon, CEC Executive Director, on today’s SCOTUS decision in Watson v. RNC

“The Center for Election Confidence (CEC) is disappointed by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today in Watson v. RNC to preserve state late-ballot-receipt practices that have the primary effect of sowing distrust in election processes and outcomes.

“For the sake of voters’ confidence, CEC continues to support the adoption of a bright-line rule that all ballots must be received on Election Day. And today’s decision did nothing to disrupt the States’ power to do so.

“We encourage state legislators to respond to today’s decision with the passage of strong provisions that ensure all election laws—including ballot receipt deadlines—are consistent, transparent, predictable, and understandable.”
