KRNV-TV/News4 (Reno, Nev.) covered Center for Election Confidence’s (CEC) letter to Carson City officials following repeated ballot errors, including the June 2026 omission of multiple candidates from the primary ballot.

CEC Chief Policy Counsel Caleb Hays appeared in the coverage and explained that CEC’s proposal to assist Carson City is a “pro bono offer” intended to help voters have confidence in election systems and results.

Hays said CEC would welcome the opportunity to sit down with Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen and his staff to review how the mistake occurred, who was responsible, and what procedural improvements could be made before future elections. 

News4 also reported that Hoen addressed the issue at the June 18 Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, where he said the excluded candidates would appear on the November general election ballot and that the affected candidates had been contacted. Hoen told News4 that he strives to be transparent about Carson City elections and has already taken action to protect the integrity of future elections. 

However, the coverage noted that this was not Carson City’s first recent ballot issue. In 2024, voters received new mail ballots after an Independent American Party candidate was incorrectly listed as a Democrat, and some ballot materials reportedly listed drop-off locations that did not appear to exist. 

CEC continues to encourage Carson City officials to conduct a serious review of their ballot-preparation procedures, strengthen proofreading and legal-compliance safeguards, and implement visible reforms that protect both election integrity and voter confidence.
