WBAY-TV (Green Bay, Wisc.) covered Center for Election Confidence’s (CEC) letter to the Green Bay Common Council following reports that the City of Green Bay’s election clerk again sent extra absentee ballots to voters, the second reported duplicate-ballot issue in three months.
CEC’s letter offered the organization’s expertise as Green Bay officials consider how to restore voter confidence before the August primary. WBAY reported that CEC requested information from the Common Council about any investigation into the Clerk’s office, corrective action, and changes to ballot-processing procedures.
CEC Chief Policy Counsel Caleb Hays appeared in WBAY’s coverage and explained why the repeated nature of the mistake demands serious attention. “One time is a mistake,” Hays said, but after the second reported issue, “unfortunately, we’ve seen a pattern develop in Green Bay.”
CEC continues to urge Green Bay officials to act quickly, review the Clerk’s procedures, and implement visible reforms to ensure only one ballot is issued to each eligible voter at a time.
