WisPolitics published Center for Election Confidence’s (CEC) release highlighting the threat to voter confidence after Green Bay’s second reported extra-ballot issue in three months.
The release explains that CEC sent a letter to Green Bay Common Council members offering expert assistance as the Council considers solutions. CEC also requested information about the Council’s plans for an independent, publicly disclosed investigation into the Clerk’s office’s failed training, processes, and procedures, as well as plans for corrective action and procedural improvements.
CEC Chief Policy Counsel Caleb Hays emphasized that the Clerk’s role is “straightforward but vital. When an absentee ballot is requested, the Clerk must ensure that only one ballot is issued to a voter at a time.” Hays also warned that voters deserve more than assurances that duplicate ballots will not be counted, noting that “trust but verify” should guide Green Bay’s response.
CEC urges the Common Council to act now and remains ready to help develop reforms that protect both election integrity and voter confidence.
